Who should start with silicone
Silicone makes sense when fine sculpt detail, lower porosity and simpler routine cleaning are high priorities and the higher price is acceptable. Do not assume every silicone formulation feels the same; manufacturer-specific softness systems can change the result.
Who should start with TPE
TPE can be a better fit when softness and a lower entry price matter more than having the least demanding maintenance routine. Buyers should be comfortable following material-specific cleaning, drying, powdering or storage guidance supplied by the manufacturer.
Why material alone cannot tell you quality
Skeleton design, joint tolerances, weight reduction, hand construction, head attachment and quality control can matter as much as the outer material. A premium material wrapped around poor hardware is still a poor purchase.

Failure modes buyers overlook
TPE failure mode: buying for softness, then discovering the required stain prevention, powdering/aftercare or heat sensitivity does not fit your routine. WM's own care instructions warn about dye transfer, sunlight and prolonged stretching.
Silicone failure mode: paying for premium material while ignoring the weight. Irontech's manufacturing documentation explains why silicone bodies frequently use internal foam to manage density and weight. A poorly matched full-size silicone body can be harder to own than a carefully chosen TPE model.
Hybrid failure mode: treating the whole product as one material. A silicone head/TPE body may need different care at different surfaces and attention at the neck interface.
A fast decision rule
If you are undecided, choose the material only after you set a weight ceiling and care tolerance. If you can accept TPE care and want to keep cost lower, start there. If you strongly prefer easier surface maintenance and can pay the premium, start with silicone. If neither statement feels right, compare a hybrid—but verify exactly which parts use which material.
