Identify every material first
Know whether the body and head are silicone, TPE or mixed. Also identify painted areas, wigs, adhesives and any electronic components because each can change what cleaners or temperatures are appropriate.
Use only compatible cleaning products
Follow the manufacturer recommendation for soap, cleaner or powder. Avoid harsh solvents and unverified oils that can react with soft materials or surface finishes.
Dry completely before storage
Moisture trapped in creases, removable components or storage fabric can create odor and material problems. Allow adequate drying time before dressing or storing.
Prevent dye transfer
Dark fabrics and unstable dyes can stain soft materials. Test new clothing or use a clean barrier until you know the fabric is colorfast.
Respect the frame
Move joints within the intended range and stop if resistance feels abnormal. Do not use generic force-based advice to “break in” a skeleton without manufacturer guidance.

A conservative cleaning sequence
- Remove wigs/clothing/accessories that could get wet or transfer dye.
- Support the doll securely; do not balance a heavy full-size body precariously.
- Use only a cleaner the manufacturer says is compatible with the exact material.
- Clean gently with hands/soft materials rather than abrasive scrubbing.
- Rinse/clear residue as directed.
- Dry all surfaces and creases fully before dressing or storage.
- Apply material-specific aftercare only if recommended for that formulation.
- Return joints to a neutral, low-stress storage position.
Common care mistakes
Using a solvent because it “works faster,” leaving dark clothing on untested TPE, storing while damp, forcing a joint while the skin is stretched, and using repair glue meant for the wrong material can all turn a minor problem into permanent damage. Manufacturer-specific instructions outrank generic forum routines.
